Adelaide Strikers top order batsman Jono Dean and Blake Dean, who previously played in the Big Bash League for Sydney Thunder, were given the call up this season as the ACT Aces searched for a maiden win.
It was a win they got and surprisingly, the talented siblings did not even have to lift a bat.
The Aces are Cricket ACT’s representative in the Regional Bash competition, a T20 format league which began two seasons ago.
While the Aces went empty-handed in its first two campaign, season 2017-18 started with an emphatic win over the South Coast Crew at Manuka Oval.
The visitors were sent in to bat after the Aces won the toss and it soon became clear why the hosts made that decision.
South Coast Crew was skittled for just 75 runs in 14.5 overs, Blake Dean claiming 2-11 off his two overs, including rival skipper Brett Gilly.
In reply the Aces lost just one wicket in chasing down the required total off 37 deliveries.
It is the sort of performance skipper Matt Condon feels the Aces can repeat as the competition unfolds.
“I'm expecting the team to go all the way, it's strong group of players with a lot of experience and a few younger guys to do the running,” he said. “I'm 100 per cent sure we can win it, we've got guys who have played high level cricket.”
